Bahia is an oriental type tobacco grown as a cigar filler in the Bahia region of Brazil. It is a small plant growing 30"-36" in height with leaves 8" to 10" wide and 12" to 16" in length. The main stalk of the plant is columnar in shape, but Bahia grows many suckers and becomes more shrub like if not pruned. It reaches maturity very early at 35-40 days and produces 10-15 leaves per plant. Yields average 1- 2 oz of dried leaf with a low nicotine content of 0.2%. Bahia can be planted at closer spacing than most tobaccos at 12" to 16" apart.
