Florida 17 is a high yielding cigar wrapper variety which produces a very high quality leaf. It has high resistance to blank shank and rot knot. It was developed in the 1960's and first released for commercial production in 1966. Florida 17 grows slowly early in the season but quickly catches up to and surpasses many other varieties in the second half of the growing season.

When grown in full sun the leaf will be thicker and crinkled than if grown in partial shade. Shade grown leaf will be flat, thinner and more elastic. It grows to over 8' in height and produces an average of 26 light green leaves per plant averaging 15" x 20". It matures in 75-80 days with almost no suckering. The light green leaves turn yellow at the edges and become mottled when ripe.
