Costa Rica 589, also called Iztepeque, is a primitive variety and is unclassified. It's growth habit and plant form resemble that of Turkish varieties such as Black Sea Samsun. The leaves are a medium green and have a glossy appearance when mature. The leaves air cure to a light brown. It has a mild flavor and is excellent as a pipe tobacco or a cigar filler. Tolerates frost well. |
