Bucak is an oriental tobacco developed in Turkey from a bright leaf Virginian strain imported in the 1930's from the US. It grows to 5' in height with large heavy leaves densely spaced on the stalk. It averages 20 leaves per plant with little suckering. The heavy weight leaves average 12 to 14 inches in width and 22 to 26 inches in length. It's upright columnar plant form and upturned leaves helps it tolerate heavy rains and wind very well. Maturity and blooming occur early in about 50-55 days with leaves ripening shortly after. It air cures easily to a light brown. |
